The Indian College of Radiology and Imaging (ICRI) was founded in the year 1974 as the academic wing of the Indian Radiological and Imaging Association. The object was to expand the scope of perceived benefit to the members by fulfilling growing academic needs of the members. The academic activities of the college are aimed at promotion, practice and advancement in the science of Radio-diagnosis, Ultrasonography, Nuclear Medicine, CT, MRI and other imaging modalities along with Radiotherapy, Oncology and other non-surgical methods of management of malignant disease as well as applied Physics and Radiation Biology.

The college deals with all academic matters, formulates syllabi for undergraduate and post-graduate teaching and makes suitable recommendations for its acceptance to the National Board of Examinations, Medical Council of India, Universities and National Academy of Medical Sciences. The college organizes seminars, symposia, workshops in different part of the country in the subjects listed in Part I, Para 4 of the constitution. It also keeps itself apprised of the academic activities of other national & international societies and keeps the members aware of recent advances in Radiology.

The College has instituted Traveling Fellowships, Visiting Lectureships, Awards and Medals for post-graduate students and young specialists on one hand and senior teachers on the other in an effort to augment the teaching and training programs. It also invites innovative and research studies from members of the Association for suitable awards and certificates. The College confers “Fellowships” & “Orations” to the selected members based on the recommendation of a Credential Committee.

The College is also responsible to collect outstanding works of academic interest, prepare teaching aids and make them available to the members at nominal fees. The same may also be made available to non-members at a fee decided by the Governing Body of the College from time to time. The College has also published a multi-authored textbook in Radiology & will in future publish books on the subjects mentioned in Part I, Para 4.

The College explores the possibility of organizing training programmes for the technologists and liaises with the industrial Establishments dealing with the specialty concerned to provide a bi-directional practical training, both at the shop floor and hospital level. It accepts donations and organizes events to raise funds to support its academic activities
